Huckleberry Initiative
"Pioneering socially responsible leadership and management coaching"
After 12 very successful years in the education sector Duncan Hewson decided to establish Huckleberry Initiative for the benefit of large corporations and is looking to develop a valuable partnership with your organisation and pioneer an exciting new addition to your professional development program. Having managed numerous departments, played an integral role within the Senior Management Team and led many overseas education and development projects, he recognised the benefits that this initiative could bring to the corporate world. Combining his broad field experience with his extensive background in education and training he is looking to develop an already successful model into an exciting and productive corporate training vehicle and high profile CSR project that offers an impressive four way enrichment.
Unlike other external training programs, graduate management trainees and/or current corporate managers will form the project leadership team for a group of young people from the UK (aged 16-25) selected in partnership and funded through our sister charity, Huckleberry Foundation. Together, the team will plan, prepare and then travel to a disadvantaged community within South Africa to deliver a two week educational program and bespoke capital project, on time and on budget.

Before, during and after the project each corporate participant will be mentored in how to build, manage and lead an effective team and deliver on its goal.Vital to their development, and core to the success of the project, will be the need for them to; analyse, predict and adapt to fluid group dynamics; develop flexible yet robust logistical planning; maintain very clear and positive relations and communications to a variety of stakeholders; and, above all, be prepared to recognise, accept and respond to the responsibilities of both management and leadership.
Every decision, action and consequence during both the initial preparation and the project itself will be scrutinised and assessed in the process of supporting each participants development into a reflective team player and empowered leader. Drawing on the experiences, and with an appropriate re-entry program, they will return to your company with the ability across all aspects of their work to identify what could be done, what should be done and the confidence to take the initiative.
